Margaret (Marge) Mary (Killian) Cheney was born on December 18, 1940 in Fosston, MN. She grew up on a dairy farm with her parents Lawrence and Fern Killian and seven siblings. She was Baptized and Confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fosston, MN.
On September 16, 1961 she was united in marriage to Gale L. Cheney. From this union four beautiful children were born; Craig (Pam) of Cottage Grove, WI; Duane (Leanda) of Frazee, MN; Fr. Jim of Fargo, ND, and Joyce of Minneapolis, MN. She was blessed to have nine grandchildren, Jessica, Tasha, Jacob (Lacy), Tessa, Joshua, Aubree (Kai), Jensen (Dan), Thomas (Sara); Chloe (Levi) and six great-grandchildren; Avery, Cooper, Lila, Evie, Scarlett, and Margaret. HOW she loved them all, the biggest loves of her life.
After their marriage, Gale and Marge resided by Forest Lake, MN for 11 years, then purchased a small dairy farm by Wolf Lake, MN where they lived for about 10 years. They then took jobs in the cities and continued to fly home on the weekends until they sold their farm to their son, Duane, and moved to Anoka, MN.
Marge worked for IDS/American Express Financial Advisors (now Ameriprise) for 16 years as an Administrative Assistant in the Law and Finance Departments. She and her husband Gale retired in 2001 by Staples, MN. Together they would sometimes cook the “buck luck” meal at the Newman Center in Fargo where their son is a priest. They were known as “Ma and Pa Cheney”. She and Gale loved fishing with their sons Craig, Duane, and James during the summer months. When their daughter Joyce came home they enjoyed playing board games, visiting, and cooking some great meals.
Marge taught religious education at Sacred Heart Church in Staples for 15 years. She loved sharing her faith with the students who came to grow and learn. She loved to read and always had a book or the Bible by her side. Some of her other favorite past times were to pray on her walks through the woods and attend Mass. She and Gale were Eucharistic Ministers at their church and enjoyed bringing Jesus in the Eucharist to the homebound and visiting with them. She LOVED to laugh and hear new jokes; she has a list of her favorite Ole and Lena jokes. Her next love was sewing. She made felted wool mittens and her son’s clerical shirts. She enjoyed baking, especially making homemade breads.
She is survived by her husband, Gale, and their four children. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Fern Killian, two brothers, Thomas and Dennis, and one granddaughter Tasha. She carried Christ in her heart each and every day.
